So on any processed foods you are planning to purchase, you may wish to read the product labels carefully (which by law are required to state the ingredients in descending order of predominance). If you come across any of the following names in a higher-up position in the ingredients list, you are dealing with cariogenic sugars in amounts that could damage your teeth, independent of any nutrient content the product or sweetener may otherwise contain (carob syrup for instance besides carbohydrates also contains calcium, fiber, phosphorus, potassium and protein). PS. Foodstuffs with less than 1% added sugar are considered non-cariogenic.
