This case concerned a man of 60 who suffered from advanced psychosis and who was about to be permanently confined to a psychiatric hospital.

Since he was very rich, the family had made him see numerous doctors both at home and abroad yet he remained refractory to all attempts at treatment.

A friend of the family, a lung specialist by the name of Dr. Reventós, had recommended the patient be examined by Dr. Adler.

The patient carried a number of gold bridges in the upper and lower jaw as well as some dowel crowns. His tonsils and pharyngeal area basically looked abnormal which as Dr. Adler noted, in nonsmokers like this patient typically indicated pathological changes hidden in the oral cavity.

X-rays of his mouth revealed areas of conceen next to all bridge pillars around the deepest part of their roots. Given the seriousness of his patient's condition, Dr. Adler decided to remove all nine nonvital teeth in one session.[3]

Upon injection of Pethidine[4] and a local anesthetic, all these teeth devoid of living nerve tissue were pulled and the areas of damaged bone surgically cleaned.

Incredibly, writes Dr. Adler, when all the nine "victims" were lying on the table, the patient was healed of his psychosis - in spite of his light general anesthesia which didn't work very well since he was used to large amounts of sedatives.

The secondary cause of his former psychosis - constant splitting headaches - had already vanished upon administration of the local anesthetic.

For the following (twelve) years of observation, both psychosis and headaches continued to stay a thing of the past. Not only this, but the patient was rejuvenated by years.

As Dr. Adler learned after the treatment, the dentist who had done the patient's bridgework etc. and who had been previously consulted had diagnosed the patient's mouth as showing "no evidence of disease".
